Sebastien Pocognoli Names First Scotland Squad Featuring Five Uncapped Players

New Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli has named his first squad ahead of the upcoming Nations League fixtures, handing maiden senior international call-ups to five players.

Among the newcomers are Sevilla forward Robbie Ure and Brondby's Luis Binks. The list of first-time inclusions also features Celtic defender Colby Donovan, Hearts winger Josh McPake, and Swansea City's Stephen Welsh.

Hull City striker Oli McBurnie has secured a recall to the national side, marking his first involvement since earning his last international cap in 2021. Meanwhile, goalkeepers Scott Bain and Jon McCracken have returned to the setup following Craig Gordon's decision to retire from international football after the World Cup.

Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour has also rejoined the squad after a knee problem kept him out of the World Cup. He recently completed back-to-back 90-minute outings against Arsenal in the Champions League and in a 1-0 Serie A victory over Bologna.

However, Pocognoli will be without several notable options due to health and injury issues. Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has been omitted as he recovers from minor heart surgery, Rangers forward Lawrence Shankland is sidelined by a hamstring problem, and Torino striker Che Adams is also unavailable through injury.

Scotland's upcoming Nations League schedule begins with an away match against Slovenia on September 26, followed by a home clash against Switzerland on September 29. The campaign continues in October with games against North Macedonia on October 3 and Slovenia on October 6, before concluding in November against North Macedonia on November 13 and Switzerland on November 16.
