Brian Riemer Names 24-Man Denmark Squad for Nations League Fixtures
Denmark head coach Brian Riemer has announced a 24-man squad for the team's upcoming four Nations League matches. The roster includes in-form midfielders Mads Bidstrup and Thomas Jorgensen following their strong starts in French football. Christian Eriksen remains absent from the selection as he continues his rehabilitation in Denmark.
Danish national team head coach Brian Riemer announced a 24-man squad on Tuesday for Denmark's upcoming four Nations League fixtures. The Danes are scheduled to travel to Oslo to face Norway on September 24, followed by a home match against Wales three days later.
Midfielders Mads Bidstrup and Thomas Jorgensen were among the standout inclusions following impressive performances in France. Riemer explained that Bidstrup has developed into a key figure and an energetic ball-winner for Lyon after experiencing a difficult spell at Salzburg last season. The manager, who traveled to watch him in person, also commended Jorgensen's transition from Viborg FF to Toulouse. Riemer noted that after catching the eye during national team training in June, Jorgensen rapidly adapted and became an essential player for his new club.
The squad also features attacking midfielder Albert Gronbaek, who has been playing regularly for German side Hamburger SV in the early stages of the season. Center-back Victor Nelsson earned a call-up despite making just two appearances for FC Nordsjaelland this campaign. Additionally, Riemer selected Benfica full-back Alexander Bah in the hope that he will recover from an injury ahead of the international window. A similar situation applies to Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt, who sustained a concussion during a club match in early September.
As expected, Christian Eriksen was not included on the roster. The 34-year-old is undergoing rehabilitation in Denmark, and his future in football remains uncertain after collapsing on the pitch during the second half of an international fixture against Ukraine on June 7.
