Jonny Clayton Defeats Luke Humphries to Claim Swiss Darts Trophy Title
Jonny Clayton secured his fourth career European Tour crown with an 8-4 victory over Luke Humphries in Basel. The triumph marks the Welshman's second title of the season following his victory at the New Zealand Masters. The event also featured dramatic runs from semifinalists Gian van Veen and Mensur Suljovic.

Jonny Clayton captured the Swiss Darts Trophy in Basel, overcoming Luke Humphries 8-4 in the final to secure his fourth career European Tour title. The triumph added to his previous European Tour successes at the Austrian Darts Open in 2018 and 2023, as well as the Dutch Darts Championship in 2025. It also marked the Welshman's second tournament victory of the year, following his win at the New Zealand Masters in August, and served as redemption after Humphries defeated him in the Belgian Darts Open final back in March.
The final remained on serve for much of the early going while providing several standout moments. Clayton opened the contest with a 118 checkout after Humphries missed the bullseye for a 164 finish. In the fifth leg, Humphries made a bid for a nine-darter by setting up 141 after six darts, but he was unable to complete the attempt, allowing Clayton to step in and clean up a 46 checkout.
The decisive breakthrough arrived in the 10th leg. Following another missed bullseye on a 164 attempt by Humphries, Clayton checked out 26 to claim a 6-4 advantage. Two legs later, the Welshman secured another break of throw to seal the 8-4 victory.
Clayton advanced to the final after halting the run of World Championship finalist Gian van Veen in the semifinals, overpowering the Dutchman with a 105 average. Van Veen had previously battled through consecutive breaks against Tom Bissell in the round of 16 before overturning a 3-0 deficit to defeat Bradley Brooks in the quarterfinals.
The tournament also produced drama in the round of 16 during a clash between Mensur Suljovic and Ross Smith. Following a moment where Suljovic engaged the crowd during Smith's checkout attempt, the two shared a frosty post-match handshake. Smith subsequently addressed the situation on social media, stating that karma would catch up with the Austrian, who had reacted to the criticism with bemusement.
Suljovic's campaign ultimately ended in the semifinals, where Humphries recorded an 111.17 average and converted seven of his eight checkout opportunities to claim a comprehensive 7-4 victory before falling to Clayton in the decider.
