South Africa are taking their team selection down to the wire as they look to bounce back from a heavy opening defeat against Australia. Captain Temba Bavuma confirmed that balance remains the primary focus, with fast bowler Kagiso Rabada returning to contention.

South Africa are holding off on naming their starting lineup until the final moment ahead of their second test against Australia. The hosts are aiming to rebound following a 214-run loss in the opening fixture of the three-match series in Durban, where they struggled with both bat and ball.

Captain Temba Bavuma explained that the team management is still weighing several tactical combinations to achieve the right balance. Primary among those decisions is whether to deploy two spin bowlers or stick with one, as well as determining if an all-rounder should be included and which player would best fill that role.

The squad received a major boost with the news that leading fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been passed fit. Rabada sat out the first test due to a hamstring problem but has now been cleared by the medical team. Bavuma noted that the spearhead brings immense energy, leadership, and confidence to the bowling attack, making his availability a welcome development for the side.

In addition to bowling adjustments, Bavuma emphasized the urgent need for a sharper performance from the batting unit. He stated that the batters must become far more ruthless in executing their plans, urging them to seize key moments and build on the brief periods of success they experienced during the series opener.
