Chwalinska Battles Back Against Kartal to Claim Wuhan Open Title
Poland's Maja Chwalinska mounted a comeback to defeat British finalist Sonay Kartal and secure the Wuhan Open championship. After dropping the opening set, the 25-year-old seized control by breaking three times in the second set before winning four straight games to close out the match.

Poland's Maja Chwalinska produced a comeback victory against Britain's Sonay Kartal to capture the Wuhan Open title, sealing the match by winning four consecutive games.
Kartal, who entered the match ranked 170th in the world as the lowest-ranked finalist in a WTA 1000 tournament, seized control early. The British player dominated the opening set behind powerful forehands, taking advantage of Chwalinska's misfiring slices and drop shots that repeatedly drifted wide.
However, the 25-year-old Polish left-hander, who entered the contest following a victory over childhood friend Iga Swiatek, steadily turned the momentum in the second set. Chwalinska dragged Kartal into extended rallies and converted three service breaks to force the final into a deciding third set.
Playing in just her second final on tour, Chwalinska disrupted Kartal's rhythm with tactical variety, including a defensive right-handed lob. By introducing frequent changes of direction and landing winners directly into the corners, Chwalinska outmaneuvered Kartal to finish off the match and claim the tournament victory.
